Our Team
B|E Retrofit was founded by father-and-son team Ed and Kevin Colwell. Our partnership owes its success to a shared belief in hiring and creating opportunities for great people and a dedication to building a dynamic company and family legacy. With decades of accumulated wisdom, you won’t find a better team of in-house weatherization professionals anywhere.
Kevin Colwell
At B|E Retrofit: Kevin is the Co-Founder, President and Director of Project Design. Kevin is responsible for company strategy, business development, building assessments, communicating with partner project developers, writing reports and any other task that may be required on a given day.
Background: I grew up wearing a tool belt during summers working as a laborer on crews for my father’s business. Through these experiences I developed a love for buildings, construction and working with my hands. After graduating from Williams College, I spent 2.5 years in the financial services industry, but found a passion in conversations with Ed about starting a new venture together. For over a year we talked, planned and studied and then in 2010 we founded B|E Retrofit together.
Family: Kevin lives in Charlestown, MA with his wife, but is still a regular visitor with his older sister, Kim, at his parents’ house.
Ed Colwell
At B|E Retrofit: Ed is the Co-Founder and Director of Operations. Ed is responsible for hiring and training all field personnel, monitoring on-site project production and communications, and installation efficiency.
Background: I was educated as an accountant and so, not surprisingly, many people have called me a ‘walking spreadsheet.’ My financial background, combined with a lifetime of construction experience and industry relationships assured a fast start for our young venture. It’s been very gratifying watching my son succeed and working with all these young, optimistic people. Training has been fun, but the best reward for the effort is that the staff I have trained is now better than their trainer. Their determination and will to exceed expectations has added a very special dimension to BER for me.
Family: Ed resides in Wellesley with his wife of 42 years and lives for the barbeques with his wife, daughter, son and dog Lucy.
Their relationship as a team was very strong. They were all in it together. I put a lot of value in that. It can make all the difference.
